Spanish authorities decided to grant asylum to an 18-year-old albino African because his life is in real danger in his birth country of Benin because of the colour of his skin.
The young man, Moszy, fled Benin to Tenerife at the end of March because, due to him being an albino, he was frequently abducted and used in magic rituals during which his skin was often burned.
People in Benin believe that albinos’ blood has magical properties and that it brings prosperity and luck. The fingers of albinos are worn on necklaces around people’s necks as amulets.
Moszy emigrated with 60 other people from various parts of Africa.
