The police in the region are calling upon citizens to call if they have information on the executions that shocked the public.

Twenty people entered the mine in Huda Jama, a mass grave of victims from 1945, including the state attorney, historians and the investigating judge, writes 24ur.si.

The historian Mitja Ferenc and Marko Strovs from the state commission for victims, stated that there are testimonies that the victims were brought there from the Teharje camp.

Joze Balazic from the institute for court medicine in Ljubljana, say that the victims were most probably tortured before dying. He added they were probably dead when the pit was closed.

He added that it is hard to talk about the cause of death. Balazic considers that identification of the remains via DNA is nearly totally ruled out due to the lime that they were covered in.

As a person I consider this to be the most shaking thing that you can see in your life

Those who participated in the crime are keeping quiet

“The scenes that we saw there indicate that the victims died in agony. All of the corpses were covered in lime, and the position of the bodies seems to show that the victims continued to move for some time” said the pathologist Joze Balazic.

The assistant director of the crime police headquarters of the general police headquarters, Pavle Jamnik, says that the police are interested in the perpetrators. They called upon the citizens to contact them if they have any information on the events near Celje from the first months of 1945.

“The victims cannot speak. Those who participated in the murder are keeping quiet” said Jamnik. He stressed that those who know about the case are already dead.

The Croatian association of veterans, invalids and widows of the Croatian War of Independence from Podravka, are seeking an investigation from the State Attorney’s Office. They claim that there are Croatians amongst those killed.

“We are surprised that the Croatian politicians did not inform them of the recent discovery of the grave that hides the corpses of innocent Croatians” say Croatian veterans.
