Direct Route – Bush Travels to Texas by Helicopter
Published: January 20, 2009 23:32h

George W. Bush has officially descended from his presidential throne, and his place was taken by Barack Obama.

After the ceremonial speech by the new president, in which Barack Obama thanked his predecessor for cooperation and everything he did, George W. Bush entered a helicopter and symbolically closed the door to his rule.

Take a look at the photo gallery: Direct Route – Bush Travels to Texas by Helicopter.

The former president and his wife Laura went to Texas. Before that, the former vice-president Dick Cheney left the people gathered at the inauguration. He attended the ceremony in a wheelchair because of a back injury, and left in a limousine.

During the last few months, Bush’s popularity has fallen drastically, and more than 70 percent of US citizens do not support him. Many have criticised him for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the economic crisis, which spread around the world, just threw oil onto the fire.

However, all recognized that he is the only US president to have so many tragedies during his mandate. Hurricane Katrina swept across the USA, the September 11 terrorist attacks, young soldiers losing their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Besides that, he was declared the main person responsible for the economic crisis.

In the end, Bush admitted that he was not prepared for the war in Iraq, and he even announced that he will write an autobiography to explain some of his decisions to the public.
