An earthquake of 6.0 magnitude centered in the Sea of Cortez shook western Mexico on Friday but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The quake's epicenter was 42 miles (68 km) southwest of Ahome, a city of about 390,000 people in Mexico's Sinaloa state.
Mexico's civil protection service said it had heard no reports of damage or injuries.
The tremor, at a depth of about 6 miles (10 km), hit at 5 a.m. local time (1100 GMT). In the city of Los Mochis, 47 miles (75 km) from the epicenter, windows rattled in buildings but workers at two hotels described the shaking as light.
