Text

The Serb shot in his son’s direction and then he fired several shots towards the police. The police returned fire and killed the man.

Kosovo Serb Slavomir Sovrlic, 57, from Zubin Potok in the north of Kosovo, was killed in a police intervention in his home on late Tuesday night after Kosvo police were called in to settle a domestic violence dispute.

Several shots fired

Kosovo police spokesman for the Mitrovica area said the police arrived at the Sovrlic residence after citizens reported him for disturbing the peace and attempted murder.

- Citizens saw the suspect with a gun in his hand from which he had fired several shots. It is believed that he shot at his son and then he fired a couple of shots towards the police officers – said the spokesman.

The police managed to release members of Sovrlic’s family who were locked up in one of the rooms, but after the police tried to convince Sovrlic to put down his weapon, the shooting started.

An officer was hit

- The suspect fired a couple of shots towards the police and one of the bullets hit a police officer in the chest. Luckily, he was wearing a bullet-proof jacket, so he was not seriously injured – the spokesman said.

The international ombudsman was notified about the case and he ordered Sovrlic’s body to be transported to the Forensics Institute in Pristina for an autopsy.

Police found, apart from the gun he shot from, a sniper rifle and two hunting rifles in his home.
