Independent Kosovo will endanger the stability in the Balkans once again, estimated the American ambassador at the UN, John Bolton.

I think that there is a significant risk that the instability in the Balkans will continue in Bosnia and other areas where ethnic groups do not live in a country they refuse, said Bolton in an interview for Glas Amerike reported in Serbian language.

Kosovo will be a weak country submissive to Islamic radical forces which will spread its influence in the area with the support of singular Albanians and so potentially open the door to radicals in Europe, Bolton estimated.

On the other hand, the president of the Project on Transitional Democracies, Bruce Jackson., believes that Kosovo’s independence will help Belgrade and Pristina, in a way that it will improve the situation in both countries as they are getting closer to join the EU.

Seven million people live in Serbia, and about two million in Kosovo. The original idea was that Serbia and Kosovo start their journey towards Europe together. However, there was not interest in this approach. That is why it was considered the possibility that the EU align to separated ‘packets’, Jackson explained.

Analysts commented Russia’s reluctance to Kosovo’s independence which Jackson called legally ungrounded, while Bolton stressed that uncompromising differences in the position taken towards Kosovo could cause further tensions in the relations between Russia and America.
