Six-month-old Leon Holder suffered massive head injuries after his father tripped over a toy and fell on him, the Yorkshire post reported.
The mother of little Leon, Katie Holder, 19, heard her boyfriend and the boy’s father, Sam Barwick, crying out for help from the living room. One of the neighbours, Janet Winter, a nurse, also came in
I heard Sam scream 'Katie' four or five times. I saw Sam on the living room floor on his knees, holding Leon. He was crying. I took Leon in my arms and Sam called for an ambulance on his mobile.
Katie Holder, Leon's mother
- I heard Sam scream 'Katie' four or five times. I saw Sam on the living room floor on his knees, holding Leon. He was crying. I took Leon in my arms and Sam called for an ambulance on his mobile - Katie Holder recalls.
- The baby was limp, blue and motionless like a rag doll. I placed my mouth over the baby's mouth and nose and he changed to a grey colour, as if his colour was coming back. He made a noise as if he was catching his breath – the neighbour, Janet Winter, said.
Leon was taken to hospital and immediately taken into intensive care. But the doctors concluded that the boy’s injuries were “catastrophic” and decided to, with the parents’ consent, take him off life support.
The police concluded this was a tragic accident without any suspicious circumstances.
