M.S./V.T.
In a monstrous killing spree in German Winnenden, 17-year-old Tim Kretschmer killed a Croat, among other people. Croatia Foreign Affairs Ministry informs that 37-year-old Dens Puljic is in question, nephew of Bosnian Archbishop Cardinal Vinko Puljic.
Furthermore, we also unofficially find out that the Volkswagen car salon where the killer was planning to steal a car, and where he also killed a customer, was owned by Denis Puljic. Croatian Consulate staff has already visited the Puljic family, to express their condolences.
The police assume that the weapon with which the crime was committed comes from an abundant weapon collection of the killer`s father.
Nearly all the victims of the 17-year-old killer were women, and most were killed with a shot to the head, therefore it is assumed that the murder was retaliation against women. Furthermore, one of the assumptions is that the murder was inspired by this morning`s massacre in the USA.
Day of mourning for all of Germany
- This is a day of mourning for all of Germany and we are with the killer persons` families in our
thoughts and prayers – German Chancellor Angela Merkel told a press conference.
- It is unimaginable that in just seconds, pupils and teachers were killed - it is an appalling crime – Merkel said.
German President Horst Koehler expressed disbelief and astonishment with the Winnenden massacre.
- We feel a deep bond with them in these difficult hours – Koehler said.
President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso extended his condolences to the families of killed persons, adding that he was “shocked with the incomprehensible crime”.
