Some 2 million people watched the inauguration of the 44 th American President Barack Obama. Fortunate 240,000 spectators got to watch the ceremony from special stalls on the terrace of the West side of the Congress, while others watched it on large video screens in the streets of the capital.
The ceremony attracted great interest, thus the tickets for the ceremony were sold out in
unbelievable 60 seconds. Everyone wanted to see the historic inauguration lice and be as close to Barack Obama as possible.
Seeing how the interest was great, photographers and camera operators did their best to capture the new president from every possible angle. The only place they could not take snaps from is space.
However, the inauguration was observed from the Earth`s orbit, 680 kilometres above, to be precise. The GeoEye-1 satellite was in charge of the images, which was exactly above Washington at the moment of the inauguration, travelling at the speed of 27,360 kmph.
Thanks to it, we now know what Barack Obama`s inauguration would have looked like to aliens, in case they glanced at the Earth.
