Since the start of the presidential campaign in the USA, greatest differences between the Republicans and the Democrats could be seen in their views towards war in Iraq.

The primaries are over and John McCain and Barack Obama remain as the pivotal rivals, one of which will head the country in the next four years.

Republican John McCain is a famous Vietnam War veteran and has been an eager supporter of war in Iraq even before the US Army invaded the country. On the other hand, Democrat Barack Obama opposes war, he has done so from the very start and recently advocated momentary withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

However, analysis of the electoral commission has shown that Obama received over 327,000 dollars of donations from those who declared themselves as army officers, while they gave McCain only 224,000 dollars.

Polls show that the Republican is still in the lead in relation to the Democrat when it comes to the number of supporters who are in the army or are veterans: 49 versus 32 percent.

A question is raised: What exactly influences the army`s decision while choosing its future president? On one hand, there are those who wait to come home from Iraq as soon as possible, where over 4 million of young lives were lost and 12 billion dollars were spent, while on the other, there are people who believe the invasion has yielded success.

Meanwhile, not even Obama sticks to his positions. He recently said Americans need to remain cautious when it comes to withdrawing troops from the two battlefields, Iraq and Afghanistan. This would mean that he leaves more room to all options. Many fear the senator advocated anti-war views just to beat Hillary Clinton in the primaries (she advocated the invasion, but has changed her mind later), while supporters hope he has changed his mind to gain the trust of Republican voters.

Obama requested greater sanctions for Iran

Reuters-.--.-Senator Barack Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton appear on stage Obama announced his visit to Iraq, which has surprised both camps, the Republicans, as well as the Democrats. Despite all, the Democrat denies he is coming closer to the centre.

Among other things, the Democrat hopeful has requested greater sanctions for Iran, because he holds this country a threat due to long-range missile testing.

The change Obama has been announcing since the start of his campaign has given hope to the American people, even though many wonder now what sort of changes are in question exactly.

Return of troops from Iraq questioned

Liberal Ron Paul, famous for his views which differ from American policies so far, criticised Obama on once occasion, saying a candidate has never made it clear what sort of changes he was talking about and that the campaign`s slogan was just an empty word lacking meaning.

What objectives exactly make soldiers give money donations to Obama and will the Democrat return to his anti-war views which he has been advocating since 2002, time will tell after the elections in November. It will be clear then if young men and women fighting in another man`s country will come home.
