Didier Drogba could be suspended from playing in English cups and championship for some time because after a goal against Burnley in the League Cup he threw a coin at fans and showed them the middle finger.
The Chelsea forward scored the leading goal after he passed through Burnley’s defence and went to celebrate under the stands of the visiting fans. One of them threw a coin at him and he went berserk.
He raised his middle finger towards the fans and threw the coin among them. Of course, The FA cannot tolerate such unruly behaviour because, even though the fans did that, he should not have returned in kind. There are laws that punish such conduct by fans, as there are laws that punish such conduct by players.
- I tried to celebrate the goal and I received some things at me. The big mistake I did was to throw it back so if someone was hurt I just want to apologise – Drogba told The Sun.
Jamie Carragher did something similar in 2002 when he threw a coin at Arsenal’s fans. We was banned from three matches. But since the rules have became more rigorous the past six years, Drogba could be banned for five matches. And to think Burnley ousted Chelsea from the competition on penalties...
