The scandal regarding prostitutes, who were supposedly offered to Danish referee Lars Ejby Pedersen has been laid to rest after Olsen and Pedersen admitted that there were no cases of bribery at the dinners during the World Handball Championship in Croatia. The Croatian Handball Association has received this conformation in Basel, where its representatives came to see the president of the International Handball Association Hassan Moustafa.
The Danish denied ever saying anything in writing.
Sandi Sola, HRS president
- We have received official announcements from the International Handball Association, the European Handball Association and Danish referees Pedersen and Olsen in writing, in which they deny all accusations for attempted graft and deny that anything which was mentioned took place during the official dinners. The Danish denied ever saying anything in writing. All delegates and referees who were present at the mentioned dinners backed us up, denying there were any cases of attempted graft, but we wanted the Danish referees to forward this statement to all the Croatian media, which is what they did. They have damaged us and I am glad that they have apologised – president of the Croatian Handball Association (HRS) Sandi Sola said.
The HRS was in Basel to collect the debt of the IHF towards the organisers of the World Handball Championship in Croatia, while Moustafa has no objections. The debt will be paid soon.
- We have harmonised our views regarding the candidates for the upcoming IHF Congress in June in Egypt and we also invited IHF heads to be our guests during the marking of the 60 th anniversary of handball in Croatia in October. We will organise a math of Croatia`s golden generations against the World team in the week from October 26 until November 1 – Sandi Sola said.
