Mario Ancic and Ivan Dodig were the second quarterfinal pair of Croatian tennis players at today’s ATP Tournament, PBZ Indoors in Zagreb, The more experienced and better Ancic beat Dodig 6:1, 6:3.
Just like Croatia’s Cilic crushed his countryman Veic, so did Ancic Dodig. Ancic did not give Dodig a second of rest and was exerting constant pressure on the young tennis player, which Dodik simply could not keep up with.
A fast break and excellent serves made Mario invincible and very easily blocked any attempt from his opponent, allowing him to do whatever he wanted. So the set ended with a result of 6:1 after only 20 minutes into the game.
The next set was not that simple because Dodig became more aggressive. He felt the match, he felt the atmosphere and relieved himself from the pressure and stage fright, but it was too late.
Ancic did not allow for any surprises and he held up his serves with ease. Truem he had trouble attacking Dodig, but he also probably relaxed a bit.
As the set went on, Ancic put more and more pressure on Dodig and by the result of 4:3 he stole Dodig’s serve and with that the match was over. The set ended with a result of 6:3 after more than an hour of playing. Now Ancic will be playing in the semis against Czech Republic’s Jan Hernych, who did not get too tired against the injured Zverev.
