The handball genius Ivano Balic arrived in Zagreb as a great reinforcement last year, but as an expensive one as well. Unfortunately, the club did not profit from his game-play in their performance, or their financial plans, because of which they have decided to get rid of him. They have succeeded, because according to unofficial information by people in the club, Ivano is going to Lowen, a German club that Zagreb played against this season in the Champion’s League.

All of the injuries due to which Ivano was not playing have plagued him in Zagreb, and when he was playing he was not the Ivano we remember. This has pushed Zagreb into expenses that they simply cannot cover. More precisely, the general manager of the club Zoran Gobac said that the former world’s best player puts the club into debt by 350 thousand kuna per month!

Since Balic came, we sink 350,000 kuna in debt per month, and when our sponsors left, it is even worse. We will not ruin the club for Balic or anyone else

Zoran Gobac

This is why he announced salary cuts, mainly to Balic himself, who receives more than 200,000 euros per year, which is the amount mentioned when he came. That sort of burden, at the moment when the strongest sponsors left and when the club did not receive Zagreb’s Arena, is too large.

Of course, Ivano did not want to accept the situation in which what given to him on a signed contract is being taken away. This is why his manager David Caballero is intensively searched for a new club for him. He found it in the strongest league in the world when handball, as well as finances are concerned.

Balic’s era in Zagreb has come to a bad end, and it is a shame that he did not remain for one more season in order to lead the team towards the highest aims. He was the best player in the world for years, and now when he has solved the problems with his back, he can only be better than he was last season.
