The NBA champion Boston Celtics traded experienced guard Sam Cassell to the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday for a conditional second-round draft pick in 2015.
Cassell has not played for Boston this season.
"Sam was an important piece of our championship team last season," president of basketball operations Danny Ainge told the team's website.
"His profound knowledge of the game and his infectious personality will be missed from our locker room."
Cassell averaged 4.5 points and 1.2 assists in 12.6 minutes per game during the 2008 playoffs.
A first-round pick of the Houston Rockets in the 1993 draft, Cassell has averaged 15.8 points and six assists over 16 NBA seasons, including stops in Phoenix, Dallas, New Jersey, Milwaukee, Minnesota and at the Los Angeles Clippers.
