Dancing tango can save troubled relationships, a study published by the University of Frankfurt says.
The study included 22 couples whose levels of stress hormones and sex hormones were measured before and after the tango. Couples also filled a questionnaire in which they described their feelings during the dance.
The analysis concluded that the tango reduced cortisone levels and raised the levels of testosterone. Three key factors were responsible for this - music, movement and physical contact with a partner.
Cortisone decreased mainly due to the music, and testosterone increased because of the two other reasons. Positive emotional and hormonal reactions were strongest when all the three factors coincided.
The study confirmed that the German marriage counselors, who regularly prescribe tango, are right.
