The Glamour Women of the Year 2008 award went to 10-year-old Nujood Ali whose story about her arranged marriage shocked the public.

Reuters-.--.-Actress Kate BosworthThe Glamour Women of the Year awards which was traditionally organised for the 19th time by Glamour Magazine in New York, gathered the most famous women in art, from actresses to writers.

This year’s award, which honours women for their contribution to sports, fashion, culture and politics went to 10-year-old Nujood Ali from Yemen, whose shocking story about her arranged marriage with a 30-year-old man who beat her and sexually molested her was widely reported by the media and made her an international celebrity.

- With the help of human rights lawyer Shada Nasser, child bride Nujood Ali took the stand against her husband in court, and was granted a historic divorce – the host at the awards said.

Jane Goodall, known for her work with chimpanzees, was awarded for lifetime achievement for her humanitarian and environment protection work. Australian actress Nicole Kidman, who walked the red carpet accompanied by husband Keith Urban, was awarded for her work at the UN’s Development Fund for Women.

Former model and TV host Tyra Banks was also awarded for her humanitarian work with young women, as was Hillary Clinton who has been an inspiration to generations of women, as well as the Chanel company’s CEO, Maureen Chiquet for her business success, Reuters reported.
