The Milan tycoon Matteo Marzotto has decided to re-launch the Paris brand Vionnet, reports the Telegraph.
Marzotto bought the historical label and has decided to launch it again in Milan, in June 2009. Vionnet was founded in Paris in 1912, and ruled the high fashion scene for 70 years.
The label was founded by Madeleine Vionnet, who was considered to be a fashion revolutionary that was against the wearing or corset or clothing that limited the freedom of movement of women’s bodies. She was inspired by clothing that was shown on Greek statues, which she revived and adapted for her own time. Madeleine Vionnet left a deep trace on the work of modern designers, especially John Galliano.
At her peak, Vionnet employed more than one thousand tailors, and was amongst the first designers to expert her creations to the USA. Her dresses were worn by famous stars like Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo and Katharine Hepburn. The Vionnet label was closed at the start of World War II.
Marzotto wants to revive the label Vionnet with the idea of fashion which is modern, but contains elements from the past. Marzotto wants to make a brand that will stand out with innovative elegance and celebrate Madeleine Vionnet’s work.
