ZAGREB, CROATIA - The dean of Zagreb’s Faculty of Law, Josip Kregar, does not want to confirm or deny his candidature at the local elections in the City of Zagreb. According to the media, Kregar with Igor Radjenovic and Velimir Srice, came out as a candidate for mayor with an independent list.

“Because the local elections have not been filed yet, it is early to announce a candidature to the public. There are some indications, but not political parties, but an independent candidature” said the dean of the Faculty of Law.

Even though he confirmed that he cannot confirm or even less deny his candidature, Kregar stressed that the decision would not be an ambition and wish for power and money, but a mission of a group of people.

Kregar was born in Ogulin, on January 1, 1953. He finished primary school in Novi Vinodolski, high school in Sibenik, and a Master’s and PhD at the Faculty of Law in Zagreb.

The mentioned duo, that should accompany the dean of the Faculty of Law at the local elections, already has experience in the Zagreb city government. Velimir Srice, a professor at the Faculty of Economics, was at the head of the Zagreb city government in 2000 and 2001. The HNS (Croatian People’s Party) proposed him for the position, but only nine months later he resigned, because as he said, the former mayor at the time, Milan Bandic did not want to accept any of his proposals or ideas.

In this mandate, Radjenovic was a city government member and director of one of the subsidiaries of Zagreb Holding. He also resigned from that position after the affair in the company “Zagrebacke Ceste” (Zagreb’s Roads) in May 2008.
