Split: A new strategy against swine flu

The usual remedy against H1N1 pandemic influenza, Tamiflu, will now be reserved for the chronically ill and pregnant women.

So far 600 doses of antiviral drug Tamiflu were used and medical emergency headquarters of Split and Dalmatian county are changing the strategy in fighting swine flu.

Even though virus mutations are expected to cause symptoms more dangerous than those displayed in current cases and in spite the fact that most of the patients contracted flu during school trips to Spain, nobody seems to be canceling any excursions.  Question that comes to one’s mind is what needs to happen before danger is finally acknowledged and before students are spared from easily avoidable infection?

Jutarnji List reports, that all of Swine Flu patients are advised to see their doctors and to stay isolated at home.

Only those with complications will be hospitalized

According to Zorana Klismanic, director of epidemiology services, up until 9 a.m. on Tuesday 124 people reported various respiratory difficulties. No more than 25 of them were infected with H1N1 virus. Only those with additional complications, like pneumonia, will be kept in hospital.

Nikola Bradaric, Director of Infection Department at Split’s KBC hospital, assures us that none of the cases were severe.
