ZAGREB, CROATIA - The Croatian president Stjepan Mesic was host to a delegation on Monday from the board for European Union issues, from the Swedish parliament. The delegation gave him the unanimous support of the Swedish parliament for Croatia’s entry into the European Union, reports the president’s office.

Croatian progress in reforms

Anna Kinberg Batra, the president of the board, stressed that Croatia’s progress since November last year is noticeable in the reforms of the justice system, ensuring human rights, and cooperating with the Hague Tribunal. They especially mentioned the progress in the reforms of Croatian shipbuilding, which Sweden needed to reform in the 1970s.

During the meeting they talked about the Slovenian blockade of the Croatian accession negotiations, and the European Commission initiative to help solve that blockade. Croatia welcomes the initiative and considers that the bilateral dispute between Croatia and Slovenia should be solved before an international court, and on the basis of international conventions, stressed Mesic.

President Mesic informed the board for EU issues of the Swedish parliament, of the situation in the region, especially in Bosnia Herzegovina and Kosovo, stressing the importance of the European perspective for all of south-east Europe, it says in the report.
