ZAGREB, CROATIA – Several hundred believers gathered at Zagreb`s Cathedral to celebrate the greatest Christian holiday Easter. Although the Zagreb Cathedral was not as crowded as in the previous years, gathered believers attentively listened to the sermon. Of Zagreb Archbishop Cardinal Josip Bozanic.

- Ahead of traces of death, God leads us, announcing that Christ`s tomb is a place of encounter between the Lord and humanity. Jesus Christ conquered death so that the divine promise would make sense for men. God has lit up a spark in our eyes which enables observing light in His eyes and living in the sacrament. This has profound consequences. To celebrate Easter means to love, but unfortunately, we do not manage to always implement the love with which God embraces us – Cardinal Bozanic said.

On that Easter morning, he continued, light of salvation for all people shone, people who are now free of fears, because the enemy has been conquered.

Victorious cross makes sense

- At dawn of Easter morning, it all began with a race, first of Mary Magdalene, then of the two disciples, Mary Magdalene represents the Christian community which wants to live and love and cannot accept the teacher`s death, but looks for him in the wrong place. Two disciples also represent the community, the community which has not adopted the logic of dying. However, the sky delighted with joy that morning, even when it was dark, because the return to the father`s home has been enabled forever, for sons and daughters. God does not come to terms with the departure of his children, He looks for us even in the jaws of the latest enemy of life and in the horror of death - Zagreb Cardinal Bozanic said.

The winning cross, which made sense on Easter morning, Bozanic said, leaves room of being in love with life, which begins with the words: Jesus has resurrected!

Cardinal Bozanic called the gathered crowd to help the victims of the disastrous earthquakes in Italy.

- These days, we feel for them and pray for those struck by the earthquake in holy Italy. Let our heart be full of solidarity, something we can do through our Caritas – the archbishop said.
