Mesic: Decision of the Court is not my defeat

President Stjepan Mesić said on Tuesday that he acknowledges the decision of the Constitutional Court, which found that the so-called law on crisis tax abides the Constitution.

- I must say that this is just proof that this country works as a legal state, and I respect the decision of the Constitutional Court - said Mesic, who participated in the conference called “Intermodal transportation and the creation of new values in Croatia” organized by intermodal’s promotion center (IPC ).

Asked whether he feels defeated because of the decision of the Constitutional Court, Mesic said that he does not feel defeated.

- No, why would I feel that? I thought that this way of introducing the tax is not the best and the most purposeful and that those who have far greater income should participate more in tax crisis. However, the Constitutional Court has reached its decision, and I always respect the institutions, primarily the institution of the Constitutional Court - said Mesic.

The Constitutional Court rejected the request of the President of the Republic and proposals of 35 thousand citizens and organizations who challenged the tax crisis law. The court determined that the special Law on taxing wages and pensions was in accordance with the Constitution.
