The reduced capability of thinking rationally leads to apathy, while lingeringly abuse of alcohol leads to alcoholic psychoses.
Although in many cases we can use the saying “what they think as sober, they say as drunk”, crimes committed in such conditions can not be justified with drunkenness. However, alcohol is surely the initiator of the appearance of different psychoses, which later end up in the terrifying crimes.
We found proof of this in our example Davor B (44) who through out the body of his 29-year-old friend, Mladen Gothard, out of his car and escaped. The cause of Mladen’s death was poisoning with
alcohol, considering that the autopsy showed that his blood contained 4.5 promille of alcohol. It was alcohol which moved Davor to act in such an inhumane way.
Drunkenness leads to emotional shifts
- When people are under the effect of alcohol, their capability of thinking rationally are extremely reduced. They are affected by emotional shifts, and in some cases by apathy. It is hard to estimate exactly what happened in that man’s head, considering that I am not closely familiar with the case. I know only what I have read, but according to reports he was not sober, and I believe that such reaction was caused by the effect of alcohol – said psychiatrist Tatjana Kanducar from the neuropsychiatric hospital “Dr Ivan Barbot” in Popovaca.
The first symptoms of alcoholism are changes in concentration
Kanducar added that you must consider how long and often someone consumes alcohol, because this is has influence on the developing of different psychoses, as numerous illnesses connected to the abuse of alcohol. According to experts, some of the first symptoms which appear in the psyche of an alcoholic are changes in concentrations, weaker memory, a drop of intelligence, anxiety, and inexplicable changes of mood.
Long term abuse of alcohol leads to much worse psychic disorders, the so called alcoholic psychoses, which can manifest in form of acute pathologic drunk condition, delirium tremens, alcohol hallucinations, Korsakov’s psychosis, alcoholic’s pathologic jealousy, wernicke's syndrome.
The actual pathological drunk conditions and the alcoholic hallucination can manifest in teenage alcoholics, while delirium tremens appears very rarely in people under 30 years of age. The remaining clinical forms are characteristic of older people.
Symptoms of young alcoholics are mainly of psychological nature
Alcoholics who are affected by these psychoses are mainly tyrants, who verbally or physically abuse their close ones when drunk. Almost every day, the newspapers are filled with such cases, and to is the case of a 52-year-old mother form Duga Resa who was badly injured by her 23-year-old son.
After he was arrested, the young man was found 1.81 promille of alcohol in his blood.
Young alcoholics usually do not have consequences which are typical of older people. Nevertheless, alcohol can have much rougher effects on young alcoholics, considering that they are mainly of psychological nature.
Delinquent behaviour which manifest in theft, fights, rape, physical and verbal aggression inside the family are the main symptoms of young alcoholics. Alcohol can seriously influence of one’s personality, and cause emotional and social immaturity.
Drunk fell from a ten-meter height and survived
However, alcoholics do nor represent danger only for the people around them, but also for themselves. A 28-year-old prostitute with 2.56 promille of alcohol in her blood, fell down from the fourth floor of a building, and by some miracle, she survived. Death rate on road statistics say a lot on how human reactions are reduced under the effect of alcohol. Inhibited reflexes and high speed often end up in tragedies.
Society still misses a level of consciousness that alcohol, the main psychoactive compound in beer, wine and spirits, is actually a drug which causes bad psychic and physical addiction. When one first starts consuming alcohol, his tolerance grows, and then falls as time goes by, so people need less and less alcohol to be drunk.
Liver cirrhosis, dysfunction of sexual organs
However, in this phase one’s liver, brain and heart are already badly damaged, and this can lead to
come. As consequence of alcoholism one can have sexual dysfunctions and become impotent, which leads to a reduced sexual desire of to the atrophy of testicles. Besides endangering psychical and physical health, alcohol significantly influences on one’s role in society.
Alcoholics often lack stable sources of income, nor are they in condition to have one, or to keep it. Society rejects these people for this reason, and due to incessant need of alcohol they reduce their need for friends and family. This causes forms of asocial and antisocial behaviour, such as the scrambling of the public order and peace. This may lead to many crimes, like beating, and eventually murder.
