ZAGREB, CROATIA – What was shown in a documentary by Australia’s Channel 7 in no way helps the Croatian police solve the case of Britt Lapthorne, said Krunoslav Borovec, head of the Police Director’s Office. Spurred by the documentary which shower photo composites of alleged kidnappers from the Dubrovnik area, the police held an extraordinary press conference in which they gave their version of the story.

Australian citizen Britt Lapthorne, 21, disappeared in Dubrovnik on September 18 in as yet unexplained circumstances. She was last seen in front of the ‘Fuego’ night club leaving in the company of two men and five young women.

Her body was found after a 20-year search, on October 6, in the sea.

The remains were in very poor condition, but the results of a DNA analysis on October 9 confirmed that the body belonged to Britt Lapthorne.

Asked if the police would take any action with regard to, as police said, numerous untruths shown in the documentary, Borovec said the police would deal with the Britt Lapthorne issue, not some documentary.

Organised Group Kidnaps Foreigners In Dubrovnik

According to the Channel 7 documentary, three young women said that a group of young men who presented themselves as police officers, tried to kidnap them in front of the Fuego night club, where Britt was last seen. The producers concluded that a group of kidnappers was functioning from the Fuego night club.

Also, the Australian documentary criticised the Dubrovnik police for denying that there had been evidence of kidnap attempts in which coastal city of Croatia, although one Australian girl reported the kidnapping attempt to Dubrovnik police, while another reporter the attempt to the Australian Federal Police, which notified the Dubrovnik police about the kidnap attempt.-.-Dubrovački List-.-Those close to Britt Lapthorne say their final farewell to her by throwing white rose petals into the water where she was found dead.

The parents of Australian backpacker Britt Lapthorne, Dale and Elke, said in the documentary that they believed that their daughter had been killed and want for her death to be investigated to the very end.

In the documentary the Australians voiced their dissatisfaction with the way in which the case had been handled and by the fact that the Dubrovnik police are still denying the existence of evidence of foul play. They also stressed that the Dubrovnik police ignored that the kidnap attempts of the three young women could be connected with the Britt Lapthorne case and want to send out an image of Dubrovnik of a safe city without crime.
