"Anti-Americanism is the prevailing disease of intellectuals today. Like other diseases, it doesn't have to be logical or rational. But, like other diseases, it has a syndrome -- a concurrent set of underlying symptoms that are also causes." With these words, Forbes.com columnist, British historian and publicist Paul Johnston begins his text and resumes in a similar tone. The source of the disease is the old, envious, pompous Europe. A legitimate attitude, especially coming from a European, but apart from Paul Johnston, there is a whole series of sources, not as loud and without such a powerful background, but certainly valuable. 

Who is on the left and who is on the right in the world of show business is generally a matter of public knowledge. Spouses Sarandon and Robbins and Barbra Streisand are on the left side and, for instance, Charlton "From My Cold Dead Hands" Heston and Arnie Schwarzenegger are on the right. Still, they are merely flag bearers. The first among the equal, but also the loudest. What is only said in passing or merely whispered can also very much be heard. Indeed, there are entire pages devoted exclusively to registering the stars and starlets' political attitudes. No one is too small to be entered on those lists, it is enough that they chose sides at some point. 

Does a society like that one need a Big Brother? Should there be a state agent who would spend night and day jotting down statements and instances of thinking out loud? No, no there should not. Every side has "people" who do this, not for the country or a higher goal, but for themselves. So that they themselves can choose sides and be legitimized. So that they know who is their match and who is a mismatch. So that they know who they are.
