Kate Winslet feels “fat and unhappy” compared to other Hollywood actresses.
The 33-year-old ‘Revolutionary Road’ actress was a chubby child and still feels self-conscious about her figure.
She revealed: “As a young girl, I never felt attractive. I was fat and unhappy at times and that kind of thinking stays with you your entire life.
“There's always going to be a part of me that worries about not looking as slim as other actresses.”
But the actress - who last week received her sixth Oscar nomination for her performance in ‘The Reader’ – feels better about her body as she gets older.
She added: “At a certain point, when you achieve a lot of your goals and you can be proud of your work, you start to relax more about who you are.
“And that includes your appearance and self-image - I don't think I look too bad for a mother of two.”
Despite this newfound body confidence, Kate didn’t want to strip off for ‘The Reader’, a film directed by her husband Sam Mendes.
She added to the Sunday Express newspaper: “I can't say I was thrilled to go on set for those scenes but it's part of my job as an actor to do that, so you just get on with it.
“I didn't want to look extra fit for the role because that wouldn't have made any sense. I think there's something to be said for looking more natural on film.
“A perfect physique is unattainable for most women who can't hire personal trainers or who don't have the time or inclination to spend two hours a day working out.”
