The main organizer of the celebration called “Chopin’s Years”,Alain Duault, urged French President Nicolas Sarkozy, to move the remains of the famous Polish-French pianist and composer to Pantheon, a Paris temple dedicated to the French art giants.

Frederic Chopin was born on March 1, 1810 in Zelazowoj Woli to the Polish mother and French father. During the 1830 revolution he moved from Poland to Vienna, and then to Paris, where he died on November 17, 1849.

Music genius who composed most of his works in France and who lived with the writer George Sand, is currently resting in the the Paris cemetery of Pere-Lachaise, while his heart is stored in the Church of the Holy Cross in Warsaw.

‘The time has come’

In a letter sent to the President of the State, Duault says that the time for a great cultural venture of transferring Chopin’s remains to the Pantheon has come.

- It will be one of the first great musicians to be moved since the opportunity to miss Berliz’ remains was missed in 2003 - said Duault.

French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, sparked controversy last week after he suggested that the remains of Albert Camus get transferred to the Pantheon. This would be only half a century after famous author’s death.
