The square in front of Vienna’s city hall transformed into a waiting room for galactic protagonists
who stood in line in order to jump into parallel worlds of Life Ball. However, the target of this event, held for the 16th year in a row, and whose guests this year dressed up as extraterrestrials, is to gather the highest possible sum of money which will be donated to the battle against AIDS/HIV around the world.
The Life Ball team, led by Gery Kaszler, prepared many surprises, shows, music concerts, dancing points and fashion shows for their 40 thousand visitors.
Katrin Lampe and actor Alan Cumming chose 25 finalists for the “best costume” competition, while Debbie Harry, Jody Watley, the Vienna Boys, and the trio Amanda Lepore, Mel Merio and Chicks on Speed glorified the stage with their voices and presence. Chicks on Speed sand an promotional song for the humanitarian event 2008 “The Life”. Hollywood actress Sharon Stone, who presides the global fund AMFAR for the research in the battle against AIDS, held a speech. Kim Cattrall gave “crystal hopes” to guests from Kenya Rosemary Mueni Mbaluka, whose organisation is aimed at helping mothers and children infected with HIV/AIDS. Top model Linda Evangelista handed over to the mayor of Vienna, Dr Michel Haupl, the “Tribute to Life” award, as Vienna is the only city
in the world which hosts such a spectacular “party” in its city hall. As much as people depends on politics, so do politicians regard the opinion of some representatives of the people, so Austrian Minister of Culture Claudia Schmied, handed a golden medal of honour for tolerance over to the organiser of Life Ball, Gery Keszler. Gery, who wore a black t-shirt with the word “berufschwuhtel” (“fag by profession”), before the organisation of the first edition of the show, did not think it that his idea would be accepted so much by the public.
- A ball for “fags”, it could not be good – Gery recalled the words he said 15 years ago, which proved to be wrong.
Agent Provocateur tested how much erotic a man can take. The guests remained breathless throughout 30 minutes of conceptual performance, fashion show and theatre along with ecstasy – crazy, kinky and sexy. Joe Corre joined Mick Jones (Clash” and Lucy Minardi, who took care of creating a crazy rock and roll atmosphere. Nina Hogan and Catherine Ringer overcame male voices, while Lily Cole, Ujjivala, Lydia Hearst, and so on, wore sexy underwear. The crazy party then moved inside the city hall and continued until the early morning. Take a look at the PHOTO GALLERY and find out why the say that Vienna is different.
